Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government will declare an additional public holiday depending on what date Hari Raya Aidilfitri falls on

According to The Star, the Prime Minister said the additional public holiday will help the public prepare for the festive season and make their travel plans.

"Should the first day of Syawal fall on Friday, April 21, then the public holiday will be on Monday, April 24," he explained today, 18 April.

"If the first day of Syawal is on Saturday, April 22, the government has determined that Friday, April 21, is a public holiday," he added.

In other words, regardless of when Hari Raya Aidilfitri starts, Malaysians will get to enjoy a four-day long weekend that starts on Friday and ends on Monday

The public holiday is declared according to Section 8 of the Holidays Act 1951 for Peninsular Malaysia and Labuan.

For Sabah and Sarawak, the respective state governments can declare the date for the public holiday accordingly.

Anwar also announced four days of toll exemptions in conjunction with the festive season

The toll exemptions will be from 19 April to 21 April (Thursday to Friday), and on 24 April (Monday), reported Free Malaysia Today.

The Prime Minister said it will cover 33 highways and all vehicle classes.
