You Can Start Using Debit & Credit Cards At MEX Toll Plazas Starting Today

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi made the announcement yesterday, 2 August, reported New Straits Times.

The system is part of the initiative by the Ministry of Works, which aims to provide convenience and alternative payment methods to highway users in the toll payment process.

Other than MEX, 11 other highways will have the same system by September, namely, Duta Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE), Ampang Kuala Lumpur Elevated Expressway (AKLEH), Pantai Baru Expressway (NPE), and Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS), among others.

"Aside from existing payment methods such as the Touch 'n Go System, SmartTAG, and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), now users can make payments using debit and credit cards, given that their account balance is sufficient," said Alexander.

"MEX Expressway's concessionary, Maju Expressway Sdn Bhd (MESB), is one of the first 12 highways to implement the open toll payment system, with it being tested starting from July 2023 to ensure the readiness and smooth operations in line with standards which have been set by the Malaysian Highways Authority (LLM)," he added.

It will be expanded to all lanes in the three existing toll plazas, namely Salak Selatan Toll Plaza, Putrajaya Toll Plaza, and Seri Kembangan Toll Plaza, this September.

Alexander said his ministry will continue to stay informed about the new payment system's testing progress and level of readiness, reported Berita Harian.
